Little Mabel blew a bubble, and it caused a lot of trouble, such a lot of bubble-trouble in a bibble-bobble way.

No-one can write the way Margaret Mahy wrote. Her words danced on the pages of the books that coloured our childhoods. Her stories grew into our hearts and bloomed with fun and laughter and beauty every time we remembered one of them. She was a shining literary light and we are sorry to have lost her.

Storyline Children's Literature Charitable Trust of New Zealand (imagine Margaret putting that title into a story), is hosting a free event today to celebrate the works of the marvellous Margaret Mahy. Popular children's authors like Lynley Dodd (Hairy McLary) will gather together to read chapters of Margaret's life, and excerpts from her books will be read and dramatised to pay tribute to this great lady.

If, like us, Margaret's stories were a cornerstone of your upbringing, come along to the Town Hall today and celebrate with us. You can even come dressed as your favourite Margaret Mahy character!

I'm going as Little Mabel.
